How the devil are you?
Hungry.

What was the first gig you went to?
David Bowie, Cobo Arena, Detroit . I was in high school – I snuck out of the house and got grounded for the rest of the summer.

If you weren’t a rock’n’roll star, what would you be?
An art dealer or patron of the arts.

What is your most treasured material possession?
Portrait of Dora Mars by Picasso and Self Portrait by Frida Kahlo.

What is the worst record you’ve ever recorded?
I resent that question.

When did you last cry and why?
When I was doing my close-ups on the balcony in London when Evita had to do her final broadcast.

What’s your poison?
Sugar.

Who was the last person you punched?
I don’t punch and I don’t slap anymore because I’d get sued.

What characteristics do you think you’ve inherited from your parents?
The ability to remain calm when catastrophes happen, grace under pressure and a serious work ethic – all from my father.

What’s in your pockets right now?
I don’t have pockets. I’m wearing a slip.

What was the last record you bought?
The soundtrack to Funny Girl.

Do you like reggae?
Yes.

What are you most likely to complain about in a hotel?
The sheets.

What is your culinary specialty?
Rice Krispie Treats.

Pick five words to describe yourself?
Oh Good God! That’s three.

What’s the punchline to your favorite joke?
I’m not into jokes.

What is your greatest fear?
Having Bob Dole as president.

What is your most unpleasant characteristic?
An overactive imagination.

What is the greatest film ever made?
My top three: To Kill A Mockingbird, The Conformist, The Blue Angel.

Can you recite a line of poetry?

What music would you have played at your funeral?
I Did It My Way, Frank Sinatra’s version, of course.

What turns you on?
A man that smells good. A good sense of humour. A beautiful painting. A scar.

Where are you off to now?
I’m staying put.

Have you ever been arrested?
No.
